The Glen Snider Memorial Award
8.2.1.
In recognition of Glen Snider who on September 27, 1975
during a practice run on Saturday at the Virginia City
Hill Climb run was killed driving a Fiat Dino in the ill
famed turn 17 The Bay Area Chapter of the FOC on October
1, 1975 established the Glen Snider Memorial Award which
was to be presented on an annual basis to the Bay Area
Ferrari Region Club member who most distinguished
himself at the Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca in
Monterey. The month before, on August 9th that year at
the 2nd Annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races in
Race 5 for 1957 to 1961 GT Racing Cars, Glen won the
race in his 1958 250 GT Tour de France. The race was
described as the mostly contested race of the day. Phil
Hill was there entered in race 8 and won in a 1937 Alpha
Romeo 8C-2900B. He was so impressed with the way Glen
Snider drove to his race win that he approached Glen in
his pit to congratulate him. He then asked Glen for his
autograph. In 1989 when the Pacific Region left the FOC
and affiliated with Ferrari Club of America it continued
to present this award to FCA-PR members.
8.2.2.
The award recipient will be selected by the FCA-PR board
of directors after the Monterey Historic Races and will
be awarded to the recipient at a large gathering of the
FCA-PR members such as the annual Christmas Party, Delta
Dash, or the tent at the Monterey Historic Races.
8.2.3.
Criteria for a candidate:
8.2.3.1.
The car driven at the Monterey Historic Races must be a
Ferrari.
8.2.3.2.
The candidate must be an FCA-PR member.
8.2.3.3.
This award may only be received once by a FCA-PR member.
8.2.4.
In years when there is no FCA-PR member driving a
Ferrari in the Monterey Historic Races the award will
not be awarded.
8.2.5.
The FCA-PR board of directors will select an award
winner after the Monterey Historic Races from the
qualified candidates based on their discretion as to
which candidate most distinguished themselves at races.
8.2.6.
The winning candidate will receive the perpetual award
to keep for a year. Their name, and year of their award
will be engraved on a plaque, placed on the perpetual
award. Before the next Monterey Historic Races the
perpetual award will be returned to the board of
directors and candidate will receive an award to keep.
The perpetual award will reside in the FCA National
Museum and Foundation in years it is not awarded.
